Originally, the Tampa Mustang Blue was formed by Gary Nash and Bill Smith in 1998. In July 2000, the Mustang Gold team won the 16U NSA National Championship in Columbus, Ohio. In 2001, the Mustang Blue Team was selected as the Amateur Team of the Year by the Tampa Sports Club. This team has played in some of the most prestigious tournaments in the United States, including NSA Nationals in Ohio, Carolina Dynamites, Rising Stars Exposure, AAU National Championships, PONY Nationals in VA, Southeastern Exposure Tournament in AL, The Colorado Fireworks in Aurora and Florida's Finest in our hometown of Tampa. The coaching staff consists of: Walt Rozanski, Bob Diez, Ray Flach and Mark Davis. Walt Rozanski merged his Tampa Wildcat 18U team in the fall of 2007. Since the merger, the new TEAM has won every ASA Championship Tournament they have participated in including, the 2008 Florida State Championship at the Sunshine State games along with the ASA Hall of Fame Championship in Oklahoma City. This Tampa Mustang TEAM is the first Florida TEAM to ever win that National Championship event. Their next goal is set on winning an ASA National Championship. The ultimate goal is find every Tampa Mustang player a place to continue their academic and athletic careers at the College level.

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. --- The Tampa Mustangs-Walt TEAM captured the ASA 18-under Hall of Fame Tournament, June26th -29th recording an 8-1 overall record. Battling through the loser’s bracket, the Mustangs earned a berth to the 2008 ASA/USA Softball 18-U Class A Girls Fast Pitch National Tournament in Moline, Ill. July 27-August 3. You can check out the bracket at www.softball.org and click on Hall of Fame Complex and then the bracket is listed at the 18U Tournament. The Mustangs are the first Florida TEAM to ever win this prestigious event.

Through the first three games, the Mustangs didn’t allow a run as they defeated the Roswell Orange Crush 12-0, the Indiana Mayhem 1-0, and the Broken Arrow Diamondbacks 4-0. The KC Whitesox of Kansas City, Mo. halted the Mustangs in game four with a 3-2 defeat. Dropping to the bottom half of the bracket, they bounced back with a 10-2 thump over the AZ Hotshots of Chandler, Ariz. before taking a 6-1 decision of the Lilburn Fire of Lilburn, Ga. to stay alive.

On Sunday afternoon in a must-win situation, the Mustangs continued to roll with a 5-1 win over the Tucson Scramblers of Tucson, Ariz. pushing the Mustangs into the championship round with again their only loss, the KC Whitesox. Redemption rang true when on Sunday evening, the Mustangs defeated the Whitesox 6-4 in game one and 5-1 in game two to capture the tournament title.

Tampa Mustangs Coach Walt Rozanski, stated the team’s cohesive tenacity as their success. Mustang pitchers Kim Mazzapica and Lindsey Richardson turned in great performances on the mound to achieve the teams 8–1 record and a combined .111 ERA. itcher Mazzapica achieved a combine .467 batting average which generated a total of 52 runs in 9 games.
